![]() The cabin was beautifully decorated, the bed extremely comfortable and warm. The dinner we felt was way over priced for a buffet, and the atmosphere wasn't anything special. Some amazing birds, monkeys amongst others, and the giraffes. What I WOULD DO IF I knew then what I know now: arrive early in the day/morning, walk around take the tour and then linger for awhile, pack a picnic lunch and then just hang out after to watch the animals that were near by, in kennels.larger enclosed containment areas. Our room was above the lake but the trees blocked any real view of any animals. If you do stay the night try and get cabin 18 if you like giraffes, as its right next to where they are. not thinking to look it up on trip advisor like I usually do.įirst what we did: we stayed the night in tent cabin number 25, had dinner there, breakfast the next morning and then our tour. This adventure came highly recommended by a good friend who had been here four times before, so we jumped right in,as we were doing it for our 21st wedding anniversary. Can't believe we hadn't experienced this gem before! The only drawback is the cost. Overall, an amazing spontaneous night away. There is no cell service for Verizon, but that's fine - we weren't there to be on our phones! When you see the adorable bachelor island of Lemurs (near entrance), "meow" at them - they'll "meow" back! So cute!!! The snack bar/restaurant area did have free WiFi. so we ended up eating at the newer pavillion area by the flamingos. My only complaint - the "director" chairs near the large BBQ pit are way too low for the dining tables - the table came to my chest! So weird. and then the whole lot was awake by 6:30am, but my kids wake up then anyway - and we knew what we were getting ourselves into staying in a zoo - so it wasn't annoying!īreakfast (included in room cost) was mostly carbs, but they did have oatmeal, yogurt and hard boiled eggs, so that's what hubs and I ate (kids enjoyed cereal and pastries). There were only a few instances in the middle of the night in which the entire zoo ended up screaming and waking us up. ![]() They have electric blankets on the beds should you need one (we didn't, but we are used to the cool nights in Sonoma County). Decent wine list (extra $$) and we got to sit by the flamingos and eat dinner.īedding was comfy, I had one terribly broken down pillow but the other one was decent. ![]() The meat was good, the meat carvers were SLOOOOW (my only complaint). a little pricey for what you get, but whatevs). We were able to get reservations at the buffet dinner that starts at 6:30 (I think $29/adult, not sure kids. They were able to provide two cots for our kids, who loved their special little beds :) They had a King "Glamping" tent available (#16) and $350 later (*gulp*) we were driven to our "tent." Okay, these tents are nicer than most hotel rooms! Wood floor, great decor, open air, awesome front deck with table and chairs where we sipped wine and watched the gazelles and giraffes. The walking tour was awesome - after a potty break - and we got to see the lazy huge tortoises, cheetahs, amazing birds, and OUR FAVORITE - the 4 week old baby monkey! She was SOOO adorable! After the main tour we went back and just sat and watched her playing and pestering her mom - so entertaining and cute!!!Īnyway, hubby and I tend to fly by the seat of our pants, and we decided that we should for sure try to stay the night if they had room for us. Don't get me wrong - it was a fantastic experience - but I could've done with a one-hour vehicle tour instead of 1:45 especially considering that there are no bathroom breaks once you're out there and we were seriously hydrating due to the heat. A LOT of stopping for the guide to open/close gates and talk about the animals. My main complaint with the tour was it was about 30 minutes too long. Luckily we remembered water and sunscreen! There was a great snack bar - hubby and I grabbed beer and wine which we were allowed to drink on the tour (in plastic of course). My main regret was booking the tour for 1pm - the hottest time of day. At one point a giraffe came over and was literally a foot away from us chewing her cud. The tour itself was amazing - we took turns riding on the very top of the open-air vehicle. Hubby and I have lived in Santa Rosa for 12 years and had never gone - we were missing out! After receiving a gift card for my family (2 adults, 2 kids ages 5 & 8) to do the 3 hour safari tour, we booked our tour for yesterday.
